Palace on Wheels is the train which has a glorious history. It was once used by the raja-maharajas of the bygone era. The luxury coaches of the train also reflect the rich heritage of the royal state. The train started as a wonderful holiday train on 26th January, 1982. This amazing train was the brainchild of Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism. This train was launched with unmatched amenities and excellent services to offer its passengers an incredible journey experience.
The journey starts on the Wednesday night from Delhi Cant railway station when you also enjoy scrumptious dinner. It offers 8 days and 7 nights journey in royal splendour. It is in operation during the month of September to April every year.
This luxurious train covers almost all the wonderful destinations of Rajasthan. It offers you an opportunity to visit Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittaurgarh, Udaipur and Bharatpur.
The train offers 14 fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons that are named after the princely states of Rajasthan. Each saloon includes 4 cabins equipped with bath and shower, channel music, intercom, satellite phones, wall to wall carpeting and other facilities. This saloon is adorned like a palace and offers you a great experience.
There are two lavish restaurants 'The Maharaja' and 'The Maharani'. You can relish mouth-watering Indian, Chinese, Continental and Rajasthani cuisine here.
A well-stocked bar is available on the train. It serves you wine, liquor and spirits of Indian and International make.
To take care of your travel requirements there is an attendant or ‘Khidmatgar' available at your service.
A lounge is available on the train where you can relax, interact and indulge in games.
To cater to your health needs, first aid is also available on the train. However a doctor can also be arranged on call if require.
